TUSC NATIONAL CONFERENCE – SAT SEPT 22

The Conference on Saturday 22nd September is from 11am to 5pm, at Birkbeck College, Malet Street, London WC1E. All TUSC supports welcome!

Session One: ‘Building working class political representation against the austerity consensus’. This will include a speaker from the RMT, following their recent conference decision to “continue to support TUSC candidates in local and parliamentary elections”, and a senior officer of the PCS, after that union’s membership ballot to free up their political fund and support anti cuts candidates. There will also be speakers from the SWP, CPB, ISN and Hannah Sell (SP), leaving ample time for contributions from the floor

Session Two : TUSC’s local council elections challenge, ‘For councillors who will stand up to the Con-Dems!’ Confirmed speakers so far include Walsall DLP councillor Pete Smith, Preston councillor Michael Lavalette (SWP), and the former ‘Liverpool 47’ councillor Tony Mulhearn. This session will include a discussion on TUSC’s local elections policy platform (see http://www.tusc.org.uk/policy.php).

Session Three: ‘Reviewing TUSC’s structures’, discussing a preliminary report from a TUSC Commission of the same name

Speakers: Clive Heemskerk (SP); Pete McLaren (ISN); SWP speaker – followed by contributions from the floor, with preference given to those who made submissions.

The Commission’s terms of reference were set out at http://www.tusc.org.uk/docs/2012/CommissionRemit.doc This is just the start of an ongoing discussion on how TUSC should develop in the period ahead.

Registration for the Conference is £5 waged/£2 unwaged, with a pooled fare capped at £10. All supporters welcome
